2023 Napa Valley "Palisades Vineyard" Petite Sirah
100% Petite Sirah
Four tons of picture-perfect Petite Sirah were picked on October 13th from the 56-year-old, dry-farmed vines of Palisades Vineyard. Fully destemmed and cold soaked for five days, the wine finished fermentation after 27 days in tank. Tannins were particularly prominent in this cool growing season so we fined each barrel with 2.5 egg whites to improve mouthfeel. Ten percent new French oak. Bottled unfiltered. Our final Petite Sirah.
Tasting Note:
Very dark purple. A full pour is opaque. Intense aromas of blackberry, blueberry, pie crust, and a dash of white pepper. Very clean. Very pure. The wine fills the mouth with deep, concentrated berry fruit and a lush texture. Supple tannins emerge in the mid-palate and carry through the long cocoa-inflected finish. A delicious and uncommonly refined Petite Sirah, enjoy now with a good decant (and appropriate food of course) or anytime over the next 30 years. (MRO - 01/15/26)
