Over the years, one question I’ve often been asked is what vineyard or vineyards would I like to work with that I haven’t.  A vineyard bucket list if you will.  My answer was always the same – Ueberroth, Old Hill, and Belloni.  There was never any chance of getting Ueberroth but I was able to secure fruit from Old Hill in 2020 and, although we knew it would only be for one year, Belloni in 2023.  Planted in 1904, Belloni is one of the great old-vine Wood Road vineyards on the Santa Rosa plain.  In fact, it’s the source of one of the most memorable Zins I’ve ever had the pleasure to drink, the ’91 Ravenswood Belloni.  Picked in two passes on October 7th and 10th, each lot was cold soaked for 5 days before inoculating with the local yeast Williams-Selyem.  Pressed to all French oak, 15% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note:

Medium-dark garnet-ruby.  Positively explosive aromas of raspberries, blueberries, Tasmanian Blue Gum, juniper berry, and orange zest.  An absolutely stonking sniff!  On the palate, red and blue fruits abound, complemented by notes of lavender and spice.  Tremendous length to the finish.  Acidity, fruit, and tannin are all in perfect balance.  Were you a fan of our Montafi Ranch Zin?  If so, you do not want to miss out on this one-time “bucket list” bottling!  Delicious now (we’ve already gone through a case), enjoy from release through 2038.
