2023 Russian River Valley "Papa's Block" Syrah
100% Syrah
Picked on October 14th at the tail end of the initial 8-day deluge of fruit, 30% of the fruit went to tank as whole cluster with the remaining 70% destemmed on top. A 6-day cold soak was employed for extraction prior to fermentation. In tank for 27 days, the wine was pressed to 17 French oak barrels (three new) and one new 500 L demi-muid. As usual, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Ranked #6 on JebDunnuck.com’s Top 100 wines tasted in 2025!
Tasting Note:
Saturated dark ruby-purple. Fragrant, savory aromas of bacon, black olive, mulberry, blueberry, and lilac. The wine enters the mouth with full body and a caressing, silky texture. Palate presence alone tells you this is one very special wine. Flavors of mulberry, bacon, and cured olive persist in a finish that sails on forever. Simply put, Aphrodite in a glass.
